Emergency contact details in Android's Lock Screen

I have thinking about this for some time now.

What if I loose my expensive Android phone or I am in a emergency.
I have screen locked on my Android. So if a good Samaritan finds it or me in emergency there is no way for him to know my details.

I found couple of apps available in the Android market which show your contact details in your lock screen.

But I have found a easier way to do this.

I added my contact details in my wallpaper itself. I placed it at the bottom of it, so when the phone is not locked these details are hidden behind the menu bar, thus not affecting my home screen aesthetics. But when
the phone is locked, it appears at the bottom of the screen. It was little tricky as the text was hiding behind the "Emergency Call" button. But after a couple of tries I got it perfect. Check out it out. i have reduced visibility of the contacts  for privacy. Nice eh?

How to Update LG Optimus One P500 from Android 2.2 Froyo to 2.3 Gingerbread

Finally I did it.

I updated my Optimus one from Froyo to Gingerbread.

I was very skeptical about doing it myself. But because of the poor LG service network in Bangalore, I had not choice left.

DISCLAIMER
Please do the following steps at your own risk. I don't take responsibility for any data loss or device problems. I am just sharing my experience.

So ready for it???

Here are the steps...
1. Go here to get the User manual, PC suite, USB drivers and Update software.
2. Install USB drivers and the PC suite.
3. Backup your Phone book, Messages, Memos, Calendar. (BTW, update did not delete them for me, but just in case something goes wrong, backup is always good.)
4. PC suite was not able to connect to my phone. So I backed up contacts manually and used couple of apps backup other stuff like me Messages(SMS).
5. Unmount SD card. Shut down phone. Remove sim and put back the battery back.
6. Fire on the Update software and follow the instructions there.
    - First I was trying to do this in my office network. I was not even able to download the update software.
    - Even after I got the update software from somewhere, it was not opening up in my office network.
    - But when I tried in my home network it worked like a charm.
    - Apparently they have blocked lg download services in my office.
7. Anyways, I was getting "Software update not supported for this model". Apparently I had not followed step 5 by heart and only unmounted the SD card. Problem was solved when I Switched off the phone and removed the SIM and fired up the Update Software again.
8. On my 256kbps meager connection software download took 35 mins and update finished by 41 mins mark.
9. Starting the phone took almost 5 mins which got me worried. I was stuck at startup "android" screen but when I saw much familiar wallpaper of me and my wife I was relieved.
10. All the Contacts, SMS, calendar and Memos were intact. One of my colleagues had already told me about this, so this was not a surprise.
11. Dictionary and OI File manager was missing, as I was told earlier by one of my friends. OI File manager apk was already present in my bundled apps provided by LG.

all the sweet in world / personnel rant

Y'day I went to ccd (by the way, my long time school buddy, chotu, has been placed in this coffee-chain, so congrats to him and best of luck to him for his future) beside my office, and to my wonder I saw 50% price increase on all sweet items (by sweet I mean which are not salty or sour or tasteless for that matter). I asked the guy at the counter why? Why have they increased rate of the items which were priced 10 times, well at least some of them (like hmm... let me c.... yes!! coffee) to 20 times I would like to pay...

He said "haven’t you heard, there is a sugar scarcity prevailing in world", and to my surprise I seriously haven’t heard nething like that. Well the problem is sometimes you miss the biggest of news headlines while you read news in Google reader and whizz past the items coz all looks the same in it!! Be a front page headline or that 1 column somewhere down in the gossip page...

Neways coming back to the topic... I checked out some sites and came to knw that the sugar problem in very deep rooted and sugar industry has taken a big hit this year. If you talk to industries they say it’s a farmers’ fault, not theirs, they have not been getting enough raw material to make sugar.

So I decided to go to the nearest sugar field (I guess you would have guessed it by now the story is all made up coz I don’t think there are ne sugar fields near Bangalore, city I don’t knw why so popular, well again I am getting away from the main topic, we'll take this up sm other time. I talked to one of them, no! not aliens who make crop circles, the farmer you idiot, who makes rather grows the crop and also the sugar cane from which sugar is made. Can you believe what he did, he showed me his finger... again no!!, of course not the that kind of finger, well that’s not a kind of finger but just an expression - to which I m not referring here, he showed me his finger pointing up saying ask him, a bird was passing by our head, let us say a crow. I thought it would be tough to talk to a crow between all that crowing or crow calling, but quickly allaying my fears of talking to that crow, farmer said he was pointing towards god, I thought - righhht, that makes much more sense.

So I thought of bringing up this matter coming Friday evening call, ya I have weekly calls with god, actually I have two calls on Friday, one with my company CTO, who is in mountain view, US and other with god, late in the evening. So that Friday after we exchanged pleasantries, I quickly came to point, and queried him, god, about the whole sugar issue. He told its all coz of you. Yes I mean you, who is reading this post. He told me he have spent all his sugar in making you sweet. Wow! So let’s make this clear. It’s you who have all the sweetness in the world. So next time I want coffee/tea I would come to you and ask your dip your finger in it to make it sweet, or wait I have a better way of doing this, the one in which you doesn’t end up dipping you finger or getting it licked :P in numerous times daily. I could just call you or better you can just call me daily and talk to me... spreading you sweetness by words, easy !!.

So start talking and talking sweet to everyone so that this sweet scarcity of our world ends soon!!

• I love the way abhida always want to do the right thing.
• I love the way abhida always try to help anyone who asks for it.
• I love the way abhida used to get annoyed with chicken every time chick visited his room and went thru it the way feds go thru ppls backyard who grow pot.
• I love the way abhida got angry with Satapathy when he used to do wat he do his best.
• I love the way abhida don’t approve of things which odd-digit do or atleast swear he did.

• I love the way odd-digit believes he is most eligible bachelor in energy.
• I love the way odd-digit used ring (miss-call) his gf(s) every five minutes when we used to sit in lab taking readings.
• I love the way odd-digit never tried chickening out of writing labs or asking me and abhida to come to his room – may it be “yaar, aaj footer khel kar bahut thak gaya” or “yaar, mujhe bhukhar hai” or any of those lame excuses.
• I love the way odd-digit annoys me by asking lots of que and believe me 99% of them are silly ones.
• I love the way odd-digit msged me everyday when he bought N-72, which I bought earlier, to ask me all kind of que which I didn’t even knw one can have doubt about.

• I love the way Shuvo have done everything a student have ever dreamt of doing in kgp.
• I love the way Shuvo managed to do everything after the last moment has passed, he even missed his GV as he was late.
• I love the way Shuvo tried to mug up the subjects 2-3 hours before the xam, smtimes sitting in my or kaniska’s room and many a times relied on poli to teach him.
• I’ll miss Shuvo coz he is among the couple of ppl whom I have to raise my head to look at, he is 6’3’’ thts quite some height.

• I love the way Ladha never liked any of the dep subjects.
• I love the way Ladha never got tired of talking about Mumbai.
• I love the way Ladha used to mug up the subjects in the last few days and score Ex and As
• I love the way Ladha thinks he would have been better of studying smthing at Mumbai.
• I love the way Ladha gets annoyed lately of anything I ask him.
• I love the way Ladha calls me PJ God !! everytime he see me
• I’ll miss Ladha’s T-shirts and occasional shirts, which he wears to prove to me the point he wears shirts too, and his battered jeans.
• I love Ladha’s handwriting.
• I love the way Ladha used to teach Jhun in the last days/hours of xam and pull him thru xams :) .

• I love the way Satapathy fears no one.
• I love the way Satapathy puts explicit status msgs in Gtalk.

Tamed or Wild...

Well i hav been making up my mind to write a blog for so long. But it finally comes to this point when endsems are jst 10-12 days ahead...

so here it is...

I was reading today’s newspaper, as thr was no class which i came to know in the mess at 7.25 am ki aaj power system(one of the most boring sub. ever..) ki class canel ho gayi hai , how can it get worse ki u get up at 7 o'clock n class cancel ho gayi ho ,moreover apne last class ki thi still u dont know abt this good news , and was sitting in my room ofcourse my comp was off thts why i had time to look around n come to my senses and my presnce CTE of my hall , coming back to newspaper whr i read ki Delhi's domestic airport is being revamped … . As you know my English is not up to the mark I thought y is it called domestic airport, aisa kya hota hai wahan or wat kinda air traffic it handles ki its called domestic in other is called international. Are the flights landing or taking off from the later one are not tamed or obedient or they don’t comply with the human standards..

Well wen I looked into the dictionary it said all the things ki domestic in wider sense also mean pertaining to home or home country… but for a person having my level of vocab its difficult to make out ki domestic matlab pertaining to once country bhi ho sakta hai…

I am not advocating ki India ki domestic flights mein jo crew or the passengers travel karte hain they are well behaved and all ;) but… still they are called dosmetic flights.

When talked abt this domestic and international thing with Mr. T ( I wont take his name, well he is my wing mate... gess hu) he told me about the domestic airport of banaras also give its services to a flight bound for Bangkok strange na!! and still it is a domestic airport.

I think I should close all this pakau session or bhaat if u prefer calling it tht ;)…
